I am a certified End-of-Life Doula through Douglas College, have obtained a Death Dying and Bereavement Certificate from Wilfred Laurier University and have a Bachelor of Social Work from Metropolitan Toronto University. As I have great affection for animals and value the grief of pet death, I was certified through The Centre for Sacred Deathcare on Navigating Pet Death.
My own life experiences has shown me the dichotomy of sudden death and palliative care. The need to process, feel and grieve each individual death leads to healing.
At this stage in my life I find I am more entuned to my own mortality and the abundance of death which will fill my future. Addressing, communicating and planning for death allows one to live a life with renewed purpose and peace.
As an End-of-Life Doula, I have the skills of mindfulness, critical communication and compassion to assist individuals and their care system to acknowledge, embrace and except death. The last chapter of life is entitled to the same energy and attention as all our life milestones. To learn how to embrace and participate in death is a foundation in life to cope and address loss, grief and tragedy.
Open and honest communication amongst individuals and their support systems can enable a person to maintain their dignity and individuality throughout their journey.
It is also a stage and for loved ones to enhance their relationship with shared memories and stories, giving gratitude and saying goodbye.
